Wilson & Morgan Laphroaig 20 Jahre PX Finish (1998-2018) Glencairn Decanter

It’s so rare to find such a precious old Laphroaig! As expected from the pairing of Islay peat and sherry, the results are quite funky, with that typical leathery, earthy, and organic nose. We also have a balsamic and fresh touch of camphor and eucalyptus, and the winey influence is immediately obvious, with note of vermouth. At the palate it explodes with a huge blast of the same organic and leathery notes, plus bitter oranges and a hint of tropical fruits, liquorice and medicinal herbs. The balance is surprisingly dry, astringent and tannic for a Pedro Ximenez finish (4 years in a second fill barrel), without any thick sweetness. Peat is still at a loud level after so many years, and the finale is long, warm, spicy and lively.
