Sometimes the best results come from patient maturation in traditional bourbon casks, with no need for anything else. The flavour profile of this Glen Keith is very classic and difficult to find nowadays, a textbook example of what heights good spirit can reach if given enough time. From the intense, rich and ripe nose it’s immediately evident that this was a special cask: fragrant honey, juicy fruit, and a lovely hint of waxiness. All this beauty is confirmed at the palate: very sweet, almost chewy, again on wonderful notes of heather honey and beeswax. Ripe apricots, pears, bananas and a hint of tropical fruits: it’s rare to find such a creamy, almost syrupy, fruity sweetness in a whisky aged in a bourbon cask. In the finale it becomes slightly peppery, but never tannic.
